Recent introductions: pendant lights

Here is another small, eclectic selection of recent introductions, this time of pendants.

Lladró        Nightbloom

1 Lladró Nightboom porcelain pendant with gold.jpg

Nightbloom is the happy outcome when you put an avant-garde designer like Marcel Wanders together with the craftspeople of Lladró, seen working here:

3 Lladró Nightboom porcelain pendant gold being applied.jpg

It comes in two sizes: Ø68cm and Ø40cm. Subtle gradations in shape and thickness of the petals produce wonderful effects, seen here in this photo of the version without gold spots:

There are also table, wall and floor versions. Click here for its page on Marcel Wanders' web site.

Lladró        Mesdemoiselles

There are four: Mademoiselle Daniela, Mademoiselle Célia, Mademoiselle Béatrice and Mademoiselle Annette. They are more recognizably Lladró production:

They are fun. Where you might otherwise put a row of frosted glass or porcelain pendants—over a bar, for example—you could put some of one of these. To a standard pendant shade shape (which becomes a skirt, with patterns that emerge when the luminaire is turned on) is added a topknot which adds personality and enchantment. This is the top of Mademoiselle Célia:

The flowers on the bonnet are optional (but why wouldn't you?!)

As an indication of size, the diameter of Mademoiselle Daniela, the highest one below, is 17cm:

Their web page is here.

Karman        Stralunata

I like to think that Karman read my post Cones are a Thing back in June 2017! Because, look at Stralunata:

There are two sizes of disc, Ø23cm and Ø40cm. The cone is always Ø11cm.

Its web page is here. Rather conventional for Karman, don't you think? But this next one isn't...

Karman        Moonbloom

....because that baroque ceiling rose is part of the luminaire! Yes, you get some ornate decoration in the box, along with this apparently straightforward pendant:

What is more, the light in the cone is shining upwards at the ceiling rose, making it a feature:

That's not going to help you read in that unmade bed below it, though, is it. So there is a second version, which adds a downlighter:

Karman        Circus

Circus is also from Karman but, like Stralunata, not playful either. This is a reminder how useful their collections of indoor and outdoor lights are, many of which are suited to your more srtraightlaced clients.

There are three versions, Ø32cm, Ø24cm and Ø42cm, and they are made of glass.

Corbett Lighting        Graffiti

15 Corbett lighting Graffiti pendant light.jpg

Willian Brand once told me, keeping a straight face, that he was a minimalist. His point was that one of his Brand van Egmond chandeliers, being so flamboyant, would highlight, by providing a contrast, the minimal nature of any minimal space it is in....

In which case, so does Graffiti, here is a very grey interior:

There are two sizes, Ø66cm H89cm and Ø112cm H122cm. They can be seen here.

Marset        Ambrosia

Ambrosia does something very important.

Almost all linear pendants are suspended by two wires, one at each end, and have a third cable to supply the power. Since the power cable is not under tension, it is curly. UK clients hate that!

Actually it looks like no cable is suspending the luminaire above, as if the brass tube is the only support. In fact, there is a very thin wire to stabilize it, as you can (just) see here:

But that's OK! It is part of the design, and nothing is curly. The studio that designed it, Ciszak Dalmas, say that, "the challenge of this lamp is to be integrated into the space and disappear. It doesn't have to draw attention to itself or eat into the architecture...it should be at the service of it, rather than stealing the limelight." They were inspired by the linestra lamps. Two finishes are available...

...and several sizes, from L120cm to 315cm, as you can see here.

As standard, 2700K and 3000K are available, but so is 2200K

These last two are not new designs, but new versions.

Terzani        Gaia

Terzani's Gaia....

21 Terzani Gaia linear pendant light long.jpg

...now comes in a wood finish:

This is unexpected. We don’t associate Terzani with wood, do we. Metal is more typical of them:

Gaia comes in two szes. Click here to explore it further.

Nemo        Kepler Petite

Finally, there is now a small version of Nemo's wonderful Kepler

24 Nemo kepler petite pendant lights.jpg

Kepler Petite is Ø50cm and joins Kepler Minor (Ø84cm) and Kepler (Ø110cm). They are a continuous aluminium extrusion shaped as a Moebius strip. There are two versions, either shining the light up or down, and three finishes: white, black and gold. Read more here.

So, as I said, an eclectic selection, I'm sure you'll agree! Do get in touch if you want to know more about any of them, or to buy some.
